The Merlin Fund is a small 501(c)(3) nonprofit. We originally started the Fund to help Leonbergers that needed medical attention and whose owners could not afford the entirety of the vet bill. We have since helped multiple dog breeds with minor surgeries and major surgeries. In most cases, the need is immediate and, at times, life-threatening.
We encourage people to obtain pet insurance to help cover the costs associated with owning a pet, especially with a giant dog like the Leonberger’s.
We have made some major decisions recently that affect the Merlin Fund as well as who we provided donations to. We ask that the owner agree to pay 50% of the total bill. We are also limiting the age of the dogs we help. More often than not, the bills for the older dogs are in the thousands, and they pass within 2 to 4 months.
We no longer help with amputations as they to are in the thousands of dollars with poor outcomes. It is extremely difficult on both the dog and the owner as the care is very long term.
We also ask that if we help you, please consider helping us by making a small monthly donation. We understand it can be difficult, so we will never make it a requirement to receive help.
